A new case study of Doniell Clay’s fictional DNØR artists argues that generative AI can lower the budget required to build visual worlds around music, but cannot automatically create a recognizable identity or an audience.
DNØR uses recurring fictional performers across music videos, including Deni$e, Noah and Reg. The article presents AI as one production layer on a spectrum: some independent creators may generate most visuals, while larger productions may use AI selectively alongside conventional crews.
If AI makes music videos inexpensive, what becomes valuable? Consistent characters, art direction, storytelling and audience attention. Rendering more clips increases supply; it does not guarantee that viewers will recognize or care about the artist.
Why it matters: AI music marketing should treat video as part of an artist’s long-term visual language. Reusing deliberate colors, characters, camera styles and narrative themes can build recognition more effectively than generating an unrelated visual for every release.
